NO FLICKER
Flicker is caused when the voltage supplied to a light source fluctuates. Lamps operating on AC (alternating current) electric systems produce light flickering.

HANDLING PROCEDURES OF A BROKEN ENERGY SAVING INDUCTION LAMP
- Don’t panic!
- No need to ventilate or evacuate from the room in case of lamp breakage because Induction Lamps use Amalgam only.

Step 1 Use disposable gloves and a disposable brush to pick up or sweep up the broken bulb.
Step 2 Separate the Amalgam and place them in a sealed glass jar.
Step 3 Carefully scoop up the fragments and powder with damp paper and place in a sealed glass jar or plastic bag.
Step 4 Dispose of the broken lamp and Amalgam in the specific recycle bin.
Step 5 Put all clean-up materials in another sealed plastic bag and put the bag in a trash container.
Step 6 Wash your hands after disposing the lamp and the clean-up materials.

How does induction lighting work?
The Induction Lamp System uses a revolutionary light technology that combines the basic principles of induction. The use of induction technology avoids the use of electrodes & this delivers above 60,000 hours of life expectancy.

What are the major components of the system?
The system is comprised of three components; the ballast, the magnetic cores and lamp tube.

Is the light output affected by temperature?
The lamps amalgam fill technology and the heat conduction rod in the centre stabilise light output over a wide range of ambient temperature, maintaining at least 85% of nominal lumen from -25˚C to +50˚C (for an enclosed fixture with heat sink).

Do they need a dedicated fixture?
Yes, we offer a range of fixtures designed specifically for our induction lamps. HID fixture should not be used, especially because the reflector is not specifically designed for induction lamps. Induction lamp fixture is shiny in general to increase the reflectance. However, they can be retrofitted.

Can running a lamp interfere with computers, telecommunications or any other electronic device?
No, the system operates at 210 KHz and it is in compliance with FCC and CE (EMC) regulations.

Does operating position affect luminance output?
No, the lamp itself cannot be burnt in universal position.

What are the advantages of Nanoflex coating?
Anti-glare & up to 94% diffuse reflectance. It improves the lighting efficiency.

What is the typical lumen maintenance?
The lumen output of the induction lamp is expected to have depreciated after 80,000h to 80% of the initial rated lumens. (or 30% lumen depreciation). When a fluorecent lamp is new, its light output is at the maximum. As the lamp operates, various processes (plasma, chemical, and thermal) within the lamp causes a gradual reduction of its lumen output. The degree to which the actual light output decreases with operating time is referred to a lumen maintenance.

Do voltage supply fluctuations affect the performance?
The IC in the ballast guarantees stable current output under voltage fluctuations from 170V - 264V. There is no noticeable effect in the light performance (colour temperature, CRI) as a result of voltage fluctuations.

LESL has applied the use of Amalgam in manufacturing its full series of induction lamps, making all its induction products FREE from liquid mercury. By adopting this liquid mercury free policy, LESL is able to minimise the environmental impact at different stages of product life cycle. WHAT IS AMALGAM?
Amalgam is an alloy of mercury combined with other metals. It stays in a stable form under room temperature. It is more eco-friendly and a safer alternative to liquid mercury as mercury vapour would not be released until it reaches around 100˚C under air pressure.

WHY AMALGAM IS MORE ECO-FRIENDLY
At room temperature, the mercury inside Amalgam is concealed in metal alloy and would not leak, even if the lamp breaks. Amalgam will not pose a health hazard to humans or pollute the environment. The use of Amalgam also makes the lamp easier and safer to handle on disposal. Furthermore, it would not lead to land or water contamination even if the lamps were not properly recycled.

DALI DIMMABLE INSTRUCTIONS A DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) network consists of a controller and one or more lighting devices (e.g. electrical ballasts and dimmers) that have DALI interfaces.

The controller can monitor and control each light by means of a bi-directional data exchange. The DALI protocol permits devices to be individually addressed and it also incorporates Group and Scene broadcast messages to simultaneously address multiple devices (e.g. “Group 1 go to 100%” or “Recall Scene 1”).

Each lighting device is assigned a unique static address in the numeric range 0 to 63, making possible up to 64 devices in a standalone system. Alternatively, DALI can be used as a subsystem via DALI gateways to address more than 64 devices. Data is transferred between controller and devices by means of an asynchronous, half-duplex, serial protocol over a two-wire differential bus, with a fixed data transfer rate of 1200bit/s.

DALI requires a single pair of wires to form the bus for communication to all devices on a single DALI network.

The network can be arranged in a bus or star topology, or a combination of these. The DALI System is not classified as SELV (Separated Extra Low Voltage) and therefore may be run next to mains cables or within a multi-core cable that includes mains power. The DALI data is transmitted using manchester encoding and has a high signal to noise ratio which enables reliable communications in the presence of a large amount of electrical noise. DALI employs a diode bridge in the interface circuitry so that devices can be wired without regard for polarity. Signal levels are defined as 0±4.5V for “0” and 16±6.5V for “1”. Central interface power maximum is 250mA and 2mA per unit. The network cable is required to be mains-rated, with 600V isolation and at least a 1mm cross-section, with a maximum drop of 2V along the cable (max 300m). Signal interface is galvanically separated and doesn’t need any termination resistors.

SYSTEM
FUNCTIONAL CAPABILITY
Compatibility of ballasts is guaranteed by the standard.
For other units, like sensors and controllers the compatibility insurance is in process and the and a standardization will be achieved. Compatibility has always to be ensured when a system is being designed.
SYSTEM SIZE
The maximum number of individual addresses available in the DALI standard is 64. The maximum DALI supply current is stated as 250mA maximum.
MAXIMUM BALLASTS IN A SYSTEM
Up to 64 individual ballasts can be connected in a DALI line without exceeding the system node or power supply current limits. This, of course, does not allow for any DALI control devices to be connected to the system.
BALLASTS AND CONTROL UNITS IN A SYSTEM
If control units using the DALI protocol are to be used in a system then the system size will be limited to either 64 nodes or 250mA total system current (whichever value is reached first). When a DALI system is to be constructed containing both ballasts and control units it should be ensured that these limits are not exceeded. If the system size exceeds the limitations there will be problems, due to reduced signal integrity some devices may fail to communicate or respond to commands and the system operation will become unstable.
ROUTING
The maximum voltage drop on the DALI line may not exceed 2V, resulting in a maximum line length of 300 m, between the DALI components furthest apart.
GOOD PRACTICE
For the above mentioned reasons it is the task of the system planner to consider the power consumption of each component used and to plan the system in such a way that the system limitations are not exceeded.

ELECTRICAL
VOLTAGES AND CURRENTS
In the DALI standard all values are specified at the control pins of the ballast. For the full system the situation is slightly different.
In general the control line voltage in a DALI system is normally 16 V (between 22,4 and 9,5 volts) when there is no communication (idle state). This voltage is supplied from an internal DALI power supply. The digital signal becomes low when the voltage level in the DALI system becomes zero (-6,5V - 6,5V)
SUPPLYING THE SYSTEM
In a DALI system the maximum system current is limited to 250mA, which is supplied from additional power supplies. This is to keep the energy consumption low and to ensure digital signal integrity throughout the system. The smallest possible system, one light fitting and a controller consumes a line current of maximum 2 mA for the digital dimmable ballast and the current required by the control equipment. Thus the power consumed is small. Since in practice the impedance of different DALI units are not identical, the selection of the correct system power supply not necessarily straight forward. Good practice is to allow sufficient margins for the supply current. This will guarantee reliable system functionality under different conditions and also allow the flexibility for possible system expansion at a later date.
On the other hand, selecting an oversized power supply may cause extra distortion control signals Power supplies, which have so called dynamic current limitation, will be suitable for use in almost every size of system.
REQUIREMENTS FOR DALI POWER SUPPLIES
The DALI power supply must limit the supply current to max.
250 mA under all circumstances. In practical installations the current is good to limit to a lower level in order to maintain the flexibility of changing the layout and increasing the system at later stages. If the limit is exceeded instability and starting problems may occurred in the system. Since the DALI signal varies between 0V and 16V the polarity is important to maintain also with power supply. There is no limitation to having several power supplies on the same DALI control line as long as the current limit is not exceeded and the supply polarity is taken into account.

0-10V INSTRUCTIONS
0-10V is one of the earliest and simplest electronic lighting control signaling systems; simply put, the control signal is a DC voltage that varies between zero and ten volts. The controlled lighting should scale its output so that at 10 V, the controlled light should be at 100% of its potential output, and at 0V it should at 0% output (i.e. “Off”).
There are two variations to the 0 to 10 V system, 0 to -10V and 0 to +10V. Despite being incompatible with each other, both systems were widely implemented by lighting manufacturers. Dimming induction lamp ballasts often use 0-10V control signals to control dimming functions. In many cases, the dimming range of the power supply or ballast is limited. If the light output can only be dimmed from 100% down to 10%, there must be a switch or relay available to kill power to the system and turn the light completely off.
Most 0-10V controllers offer either a built-in line voltage relay or an external line voltage relay. Depending on the application, these options should be considered.

Celma and Lif have issued a statement to the industry, clearly laying out their compliance statement. For those that don’t meet these parameters, fines of up to £5,000 and 3 months imprisonment are among the penalties.

To the best of knowledge, the 8to5 adapter is the only product that fully complies with both Celma and Lif regulations.

We have been awarded an EC declaration of conformity along with BS 55015.

SOFT START FUNCTION:
This feature slowly increases the power to the filaments on start up to avoid spluttering/black ending of the tubes and increases tube life expectancy. In cold conditions the slow start circuit will compensate by adjusting the start time.

THERMAL CUTOUT FUSE:
In the event of a fault which may cause over-heating, this safety feature ensures that the unit will permanently switch off to eliminate any fire risk.

CLASS 2 LUMINAIRE:
Double insulated with a self extinguishing ABS plastic body.

INTERNAL SAFETY FUSE:
Built in quick blow fuse. In the event of a circuit failure the fuse will blow, disconnecting the 8to5 from the mains.

OVER VOLTAGE PROTECTION:
Built in voltage spike suppressors on its power input to protect the ballast from being damaged by volt spikes.

BUILT IN REFLICTOR:
The one piece plastic coated reflector does not need to be earthed.

TUBE END COVERS:
plastic tube end covers which securely hold the T5 tubes in place.

END OF LIFE PROTECTION:
Automatically switches off when it detects a faulty T5 tube or if the connection to the tube is compromised. This protects the internal circuitry. When the faulty tube is replaced the unit will then re-set itself and work as normal.

ADJUSTABLE END MOUNTS:
This allows the 8to5 to fit into old fixtures where the mounting pins need to be set at a different angle.

Resistors are fitted with protection diodes.
